My daughter had gaps in her AS learning due to illness which needed to be filled as well as consolidating the A2 work she was doing at school. Zara was able to simplify complicated concepts and teach them in a way which helped my daughter grasp and remember them. She looked forward to her lessons with Zara and we couldn’t be more pleased with the support given, the boost to her confidence and the outcome. My daughters (Edexcel) Biology result improved by 2 grades between AS and A level and this, together with her result in (OCR A) Chemistry, secured a place on a competitive course at her first choice Russell Group university. We highly recommend Zara if you need a science tutor in Bristol. Thank you Zara!

Thank you so much for all your help with OCR Biology and OCR A Chemistry. It’s made all the difference, I don’t think I would have had the confidence to even sit the exams without your help.

Zara was friendly and encouraging from my first session with her. She was so helpful in not only reinforcing my knowledge on the OCR A2 Biology course, but she also provided me with new information that I had not covered in my sixth form lessons which was necessary to complete the course. Her notes are thorough and she is happy to focus on aspects of the course that you struggle with. Her method of explanation is fantastic and she always provides examples to aid understanding along with diagrams which are great for visual learners. I am so glad that I had tutoring from Zara and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for tutoring.

Elizabeth SH, Gordano, sixth form

Zara was extremely helpful to me whilst I was preparing for my Biology and Chemistry Foundation Science retakes. We only had a short amount of time to cover a lot of content and she managed to do that for me who hardly knew anything with Chemistry. She is very easy to get a long with and puts in a lot of effort to organize the lessons. We had one-on-one sessions which was great because she was able to give me the attention I need and was able too explain and teach me things in a way I’d understand.
I’d highly recommend Zara for anyone doing Chemistry or Biology, whether it is A-Level or a Foundation Degree level

I started having tutor sessions with Zara during Year 13, I had got a C in my AS AQA Biology, I was really struggling with confidence and with ‘How science works’ questions. Zara was very helpful, she gave me lots of questions and essay practice to do outside the sessions and helped me with particular topics and things I was finding difficult to get my head around during the sessions. Thanks to Zara I achieved a B overall grade for my Alevel Biology and am really thankful for the time she put in with me.

Rio, Bristol Cathedral, sixth form

I was really struggling with A level Chemistry at the beginning of AS. I felt as if I did not understand anything in lesson and my predicted grade was not what I hoped to achieve. Towards the end of AS I starting tutoring in OCR B chemistry with Zara for my second AS exam. Zara helped me with the hardest exam in which I achieved an A, in the exam which Zara did not tutor me in I achieved a C! With this difference I immediately knew I needed Zaras help for the second year of my A levels too. Zaras support and homework really helped me understand what the examiner would be looking for in the exam which, increased my confidence for the exam as well. Zara also aided me in my A2 coursework guiding me and helping me identify any mistakes. Without Zara I would have NEVER have achieved the A* I did in my coursework! Zara is also such an easy going and lovely person to work with, who really understands what she is teaching! Would definitely recommend!!

Zunera, St Mary Redcliffe, sixth form

I would have really struggled in chemistry if it wasn’t for Zara, she was incredibly supportive and explained things in a logical way that just made things make sense! She was extremely clear and made concise notes that you could come back to and revise from easily, knowing that you had all the information on a couple sheets of paper. Her knowledge was incredible and she’d have an immediate answer to any question and I was always shocked how much we covered in one session and how my understanding of the content increased! A swell as all this she was lovely and friendly and I enjoyed going round each week! (Edexcel SNAB Biology and OCR A Chemistry)

Marianne, Cotham Post16

After receiving a low grade in AS chemistry, I was taught the A2 syllabus by Zara. Her method of teaching makes the content much more understandable and enjoyable, and without her help I would have no chance of getting a good grade in the subject. Thank you for your help in developing my understanding and regaining my confidence!

Vikki, Redland Girls, sixth form

I was taught A2 chemistry by Zara after getting a low grade at AS. She really brought out my confidence and her knowledge on the subject is inspiring. Without her lessons I wouldn’t have even had a chance on getting my target grade, and not only is she an amazing tutor, she is always approachable outside of lessons to help with any questions. Zara’s focus on exam questions practice made the actual exam a lot less scary and I highly recommend her to anyone!

Natasha, Winterbourne Academy, sixth form

I approached Zara for my A2 retakes (AQA Chemistry), as I did not get the grades I needed the first time around. Thanks to her help, I managed to secure a place this year for pharmacy – I could not have achieved this without her support.

Amazing tutor and wonderful person – Zara really helped me build my confidence and understanding of A level chemistry. I only wish I had had her through out the whole two years! I cannot recommended her enough!

Ellie Hitchings, Royal High School Bath, sixth form

Zara is a fantastic tutor with exceptional knowledge of the exam technique and content for OCR Chemistry B Salters and OCR Biology. Every lesson I had, I came out feeling 100% confident with the topic I had just covered with her. She does not only help you with the understanding, she gives you the confidence that you are capable of getting the grades (for me all grade A’s were required for my Vet School offer). The method of detailed explanation through diagrammatic form followed by challenging past paper questions was extremely helpful. Highly recommended, four students I recommended to her last year all said they couldn’t have coped without her during their A-Levels!

Lizzie Warnes, Gordano School, sixth form

I was taught the entire A-level Biology syllabus by Zara as I had not done it when at sixth form. Her in depth knowledge of the syllabus and exam technique is invaluable! Her tutoring, and her personal statement know-how is definitely the reason I am now on a science foundation course. Having a tutor who has actually worked as part of a top university’s admission process is a brilliant advantage. Would wholly recommend.

Zara filled in the gaps in my knowledge that I had in Biology (Edexcel) after having had the lessons at school. She has a excellent grasp of the specific specifications and the exam technique which is crucial to get a good grade. The extra tutoring I received made be come to love biology as Zara often went beyond the course when I wanted to know more. Zara gives clear explanations and prepares well for lessons so that time is not wasted. She is friendly and nonjudgmental creating a comfortable environment to learn. I got an A* in Biology for A-level, I definitely could not have done it without Zara!

Sally, St Mary Redcliffe, Sixth Form

Zara took me from being a very unconfident student in  Chemistry (AQA), to being able to achieve higher than I thought I would! She really understands your weaknesses and explains everything so well! I never felt silly if I had to ask more than once on how to overcome a problem as she is very welcoming and helpful! Would strongly recommend her to anyone!

Katie Purchase, Chew Valley school, sixth form

I contacted Zara when my daughter needed help to ensure she got the A level grades in Chemistry (OCR) and Biology (Edexcel) required for her university offer. She had lost confidence and fallen behind and performed poorly in her mock exams. Zara was not only highly knowledgeable and a clear and inspiring tutor, but she brought fun to the lessons and made learning (and catching up) a pleasure not a chore. My daughter’s confidence grew, her grades improved and she has her place at University this September – she could not have done it without Zara and we would have no hesitation in recommending her to others. Another time I would start with her earlier and avoid the falling behind in the first place – as with her support the material covered in the final weeks was a breeze!

Thank you for everything

My son was struggling at the beginning of his A2 in Chemistry (OCR). He had received a disappointing grade at As, and was very reluctant to have a tutor. Zara suggested that rather than one to one tutoring, she could email questions on set topics on a weekly basis, and mark them with constructive criticism. He felt more comfortable with this and soon got into a routine. It helped him focus on his weaker points and with Zara’s help he achieved an A at A2. My This meant he secured a place to read Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. Thank you Zara

JMS, sixth form

My AS results were meeting my targets in all subjects. However, during the seond year of A-Levels, all of my results in tests within class and mocks were E’s and U’s. I was struggling a lot with Chemistry (OCR A) and Biology (OCR). One of my friends had found Zara and had recommended her to me as she was helping her a lot!! So I got into contact with her and I am so thankful that i did because i would not have passed this year and got my place in univeristy without Zara! She was so so helpful and very clear about the subjects i needed help on, and the way she explained it all to me just made complete sense! Zara was an extremely helpful and useful tutor and I highly recommend her to anyone in need of help with Biology or Chemistry as she was able to help me get back up to my target grades for my final A-Level results. Thank you ZARA!!!

Natasha Osgood, Gordano School, Sixth form

I got tutoring to help me with A2 retakes, I saw Zara once a week. She has a brilliant style of teaching and really helped me understand my biology and chemistry more than I ever did at college. She helped me grasp the complex modules and progress through the course. I would definitely recommend Zara as she is very friendly and will help boost your grades.

A, Cotham School

My grades for my AS level Biology (OCR A) and Chemistry (OCR)  were lower than had been predicted. I had been struggling to understand my A2 level Biology and Chemistry at school, the subject tutors explained things to the class as a whole, but when it came to working on my own I really struggled to make sense of it. As a result, my dad looked into one to one private tutoring in these subjects and came across Zara. He briefly explained the problem I was having, and Zara agreed to tutor me. We managed to sort out a mutually convenient day and time, and since January 2014 I have been seeing her once a week. During my time with her, she goes over some of the things we do in school, but also takes me through some of the bits I am struggling with. I usually email her what I want to go over on the Sunday before our Monday session. She is really able to clarify everything for me and explain it in a way I understand, and do not forget the minute I walk out of the room. She also runs some sessions in the school holidays, and has gone over past papers with me. She is very easy to get on with, and made me feel comfortable with her right away. I would not be in a position to carry on studying these subjects if it was not for her help and guidance, she has really made all the difference. I have just received my latest results from the retakes I had to do and am pleased to say that I have gone from U grade to B grade. Thank you Zara!

Fantastic tutor and lovely lady. Personable and easily digestible teaching style with lots of notes and practise questions.
I took on a Biology A Level with an open college, around full time work, and felt I’d bitten off more than I could chew so I sought a tutor…Zara helped me turn the whole thing around, massively improving my knowledge and my confidence. Highly recommended!

After failing to reach the A-level grades I needed for Biochemistry at UCL, I started getting (AQA) Chemistry lessons with Zara during my gap year.  I felt that I benefited from her lessons greatly. She would prepare me exam questions and this gave me confidence and assurance that I could achieve the grades I needed. She  was very helpful at explaining the difficult topics in A2 Chemistry, such as drawing and working out Born-Haber cycles.  I felt comfortable enough to ask  lots of questions, which improved my understanding  and cleared out the confusions that I had in my head. She was very supportive, easy to talk to and gave me some great advice about Universities and a list of useful books that gave me insight into Biochemistry. I also started getting Biology lessons where she helped me to improve the structure and contents of my answers, enabling me to score the maximum marks possible .  Her clear and concise way of teaching made it easier to conceive the majority of A2 Biology and Chemistry rather than just reading the required text books. I was pleased to have useful notes at the end of each lesson that I can subsequently refer to when revising alone. Overall Zara is a wonderful tutor and I’m very grateful for the grades she helped me achieve: A’s in both biology and chemistry.

I came to Zara to seek help with AQA Chemistry A Level as I struggled with the vast amount of Mathematical topics.  After my first session I already felt more confident when answering Maths style questions.  Instead of passively learning while a teacher reads to you, Zara’s method of teaching is hands on and is based around answering exam type questions, which not only helps with learning but also prepares you well for exams.  Thanks to Zara I came away with a grade in Chemistry that I thought I would never be able to achieve and therefore secure the grades that I needed to study Zoology at University.

CS, achieved high B in Chemistry, studying Zoology

After taking my AS levels, I felt I still needed help getting to grips with certain elements of my OCR Salters Chemistry course. From the first lesson Zara was outstanding. Each lesson we covered a different aspect of the course that was troubling me and each lesson I came away feeling as though I had finally understood the topic. This is something I did not always feel coming out of a normal school lesson as I did not always have the confidence or knowledge of the course to get similar help from my teachers. After retaking my AS level chemistry in order to raise my grade, I came out with an A grade and I felt much more confident on the basic principles which I am certain helped when I took my A levels.
I initially only intended to have tutoring for my retake, but Zara was so helpful that I carried on having lessons all year and she really helped me get through my chemistry coursework. I would not hesitate to recommend Zara to any of my peers seeking help in Chemistry and Biology. I would like to thank Zara; without her help I doubt I would have ever come to grips with essential chemical principles and calculations.

Miss GK, Redland School for Girls, accepted into Medicine

I had AQA Biology and AQA Chemistry tutoring with Zara for the last couple of months before my A level exams. She is an excellent tutor, very patient and happy to spend as much or as little time on a topic as needed until I fully understood. We would cover large chunks of the syllabus in one session that would take weeks in school. She knew the content really well and made it more interesting by telling me about current scientific work using the processes I was learning about.

She really boosted my confidence and was a big help with the essay questions in the biology paper.  (Also the fact that there is loads of parking right beside her house is really handy too!)

AH, Churchill sixth form, Biochemistry student

I would recommend Zara without reservation. She is very knowledgeable, and explains concepts to accommodate different types of learning. I found AQA Biology A level very difficult and struggled with exam questions in particular. Zara made the understanding of the subject much simpler with the use of diagrams and easy to understand explanations. Her teaching was adapted to suit my own requirements where my understanding was weak. Zara was very encouraging towards me and her support was much appreciated. Thanks to her invaluable tuition, I gained a position at the university of my first choice.

I came to Zara during my second year of A-levels for tutoring with AQA A level Biology, I had very little confidence in my ability which wasn’t helped by me not attaining the AS results I wanted. After the first session with Zara my confidence had already grown and has continued to do so over the past year of having regular sessions with Zara. Not only is Zara a fantastic teacher but she’s also friendly and extremely easy to talk to. Her sessions have been always been orientated around me and suited to my learning style and I always leave the sessions thinking ‘wow, I learnt a lot today’. We would cover subjects in an hour that would take several lessons to go through in school lessons and I truly believe that without her help I wouldn’t have achieved what I have.

I was struggling with OCR A-Level chemistry and having lessons with Zara made a huge difference; she really helped me get to grips with the basics of the subject which therefore improved my overall understanding. Every lesson was planned out carefully which helped me to cover all the topics systematically. Although I haven’t received my overall results yet, I believe that without Zara I wouldn’t have even been able to pass my previous exams. I would really recommend her to anyone else as a tutor!
Miss AE, Bristol, Cotham Sixth Form College, 2011/12, on gap year
After struggling with OCR AS Biology and Chemistry, my teachers predicted me low grades, which thoroughly knocked my confidence. However, with the brilliant teaching skills, support and reassurance of Zara, I made excellent progress and developed confidence for my A-level exams. This lead to exceeding the expectations of my predicted grades for University. Thanks for all your help throughout.
Miss KM, Ridings International School, Bristol, 2011/12, accepted for Science degree
I approached Zara because I wanted to make sure of achieving the grades I required for entry into medicine. I was struggling with some of the elements of AQA Chemistry, especially those involving calculations. Zara was patient and thorough and took the time to explain the topics to me quiet clearly. It also helped to practice many past exam questions for Biology and Chemistry. I obtained high grades in the January exams and feel confident about the upcoming exams in June. Thank you Zara, for making my career dream a reality!
Miss LK, Redland Girls, Bristol, 2011/12, accepted for Medicine

Zara helped me for my AS Biology exams including a re-take. She offered me lots of really helpful exam advice and techniques which proved really useful for the exam. She also gave me lots of resources that helped develop my knowledge and helped me to practice exam style questions leaving me prepared for my exams. We went through the book in detail and she explained everything in a way I could understand.

Miss HL, St. Mary Redcliffe School, Bristol, 2011/12, obtained A’s in both modules
I had sessions with Zara to improve my AQA Biology A level grades, I had struggled at AS and required extra support from outside my sixth form. Zara has an extensive and detailed knowledge of the syllabus, and this reassured me and helped to improve my confidence. Her method of teaching is efficient by covering good detail in suitable chunks. I mainly struggled with exam technique so Zara’s focus on exam questions was extremely useful, and allowed me to get used to exam style throughout the year. With Zara’s help, my first A2 unit improved by two grades, and the improvement in my confidence has been huge!
Miss BF, Downend School, Bristol, 2011/12, accepted for Physchology
When I started my tutoring sessions with Zara for AS and A2 OCR B chemistry I was very unconfident in the subject and was hoping she could help. Having her as a tutor made the lessons at college seem a lot less daunting, and helped me prepare better so I didn’t feel so lost in class. She is an inspiration and helped me to enjoy Chemistry again as she always remained positive and encouraging. We managed to covered so much more material in a lesson than i would have in class at college. I enjoyed my lessons with her and would recommend her as she is a great tutor.
Miss CR, St. Mary Redcliffe School, Bristol, 2011/12, achieved A’s, accepted for Medicine

As a mature student going back into education after a three-year break, I found the Chemistry and Maths aspect of my Pharmacy course quiet daunting. I contacted Zara for some help with my first-year syllabus. Even though not all of the syllabus overlapped with A-level, Zara took the time to find out about and explain the sections that I found challenging. With her help, I started getting involved in the classes as college, and no longer dreaded practicals or coursework. Thank you so much for your help and support, and I would highly recommend you to anyone looking for help as they re-enter education after a break.

Zara is an excellent tutor, she is reliable, well prepared and very knowledgeable on different exam boards and her subject. My daughter is shy about asking questions but finds it easy to ask Zara who explains well with the use of lots of diagrams. She has given my daughter confidence and I would highly recommend her.
Mrs L, Brimsham Green, Bristol, 2011/12, accepted for Nursing

C started with Zara in the January of year 12, firstly with OCR A level Biology and then soon after with OCR A level Chemistry, she was finding the volume of work at A level increasingly daunting. C is dyslexic and the sheer quantity of technical words and definitions that need to be learnt and spelt correctly for both these subjects, and particularly Biology was at times overwhelming for her. Zara’s influence over C’s learning was very significant and for this we are extremely grateful, I am not sure how C would have coped with her studies without her regular weekly sessions with Zara.

C was comfortable and at ease with Zara’s teaching style, she is friendly and approachable and yet formal and very professional. Zara was very well prepared for her sessions and encouraged regular communication prior to the lesson so that she could ensure her sessions were appropriate and met the needs of C.  Zara is very proactive in her subjects and ensures that she up-to-date on all the exam board specifications. As the exams approached Zara was able to instil to C the importance of exam technique and she worked diligently to ensure C was well practiced and confident with the written papers.

Zara was able to explain to C specific concepts and processes in a way that C could understand and Zara was in tune with C’s learning style. C’s confidence in her ability has grown and this is as a result of the efforts Zara has made with C. Zara is indeed an excellent tutor, we were very lucky to find her, thank you Zara for all your help and support!

Mrs DF, Bristol, Marlwood School, 2011/12, achieved grades aimed for, on gap year

I contacted Zara after receiving disappointing results inAQA Biology in March 2012. I felt I needed more help and advice with my course. I had my first session with Zara during mid-March and even after the first session, I already felt my confidence was boosted and was now looking forward to the rest of the course. Zara was also extremely helpful in managing my time. I had 10 exams in the summer and she did an excellent job of structuring our lessons to make sure every part of the course was covered. Every session I was set exam-style questions to do, which was exactly the type of practice I needed. I owe a massive thank you to Zara.

Miss CL, Wyedean School, 2011/12, accepted for Dietetics

I decided to get a tutor after my biology teachers were unsure about getting through the syllabus. Getting a good grade in my Biology A-level was vital as I plan to study medicine in September. Zara was very organised and extremely helpful in getting me through the whole subject, and concentrated not only on improving my knowledge but exam technique also. She was a fantastic tutor, very calm and attentive, and made me feel a lot more at ease about sitting my exams. Without having her I definitely would not have gone into my exam feeling confident, finding her as a tutor was a complete life saver. I would recommend her to anyone sitting their Biology A-level, who needs help or who even just wants some extra great quality teaching.
Miss ED, Winterbourne International Academy, 2010/11, obtained an overall A, accepted for Medicine
Zara is an excellent tutor who taught me Chemistry in a manner that made the subject much easier to understand. She planned each lesson in great detail, provided many useful resources and helped me to greatly improve my exam technique. After improving in Chemistry, I decided to get lessons in Biology. Zara helped me master the synoptic element of the exam and had confidence that I would perform well in it. She was very supportive and helped me achieve grade “A”s in both subjects which was crucial for me to get into Medicine. Thank you for all your help Zara!
Miss SA, Colston Girls, 2010/11, obtained A’s in both subjects, accepted for Medicine
Your tutoring made all the difference to my son. He achieved an A in his A-level Biology exam and he could not have done that without your help. I was so impressed by your organisation and the resources you provided. Thank you for the intensive tuition you provided in the last couple of weeks . Your flexibility was really important to us. We actually travelled 30 miles into Bristol to your sessions and I felt extremely fortunate to have found a tutor of your calibre. You are an outstanding tutor.

Beth C, 2010/2011, student obtained 95 % in Unit 4 AQA and overall A in Biology.
Thank you Zara for all your help with A and S. They both enjoyed their lessons with you and said that you managed to explain topics in a very understandable way. Your notes and diagrams were clear and helpful for revision. They left each of their sessions with you happy that they had conquered that particular topic. You also helped with S’s confidence in Chemistry and Biology and she went on to achieve an “A” grade in her science Common Entrance exam. A felt more confident also in her knowledge of A2 Biology and hopefully this will show in her results. I have been more than happy to recommend you to my friends.
Mrs Currie, Clifton College, 2010/11
I attended tutoring sessions with Zara in order to help me with the Chemistry portion of my pre-Medical course. Zara was extremely helpful- improving both my aptitude for chemistry and heightening my overall confidence in the area. She was always very well prepared, making numerous worksheets that were vital in helping my revision. She was able to explain concepts thoroughly and calmly- which in my opinion is the key to good teaching! Many thanks Zara for all your help!

My daughter was really struggling with her Chemistry only getting a D grade in her mock GCSE. She had extra tuition with Dr.Wood and really got to grips with the subject,In fact she managed, thanks in no small part to her tuition with Dr.Wood, to achieve an A* in her GCSE exam.

DW, Clifton College, 2010/11, obtained A* in Chemistry

My daughter L came to Zara for extra tuition leading up to her re-sitting her Maths GCSE. L was lacking in confidence, had a blank when it came to Math, and did not feel she could perform well in exam conditions. Basically she felt very negative about ever passing. After only a few sessions, L’s confidence was restored and because Zara tutored her specifically for her individual needs, L was successful when she re-took the GCSE. Zara was patient, encouraging and obviously knew how to get the best out of L and restored her confidence in her own abilities.
